The Big City

This night in NYC was a particularly freezing one, that my Miami blood was not prepared for. But that aside, we watched one of the most entertaining fashion shows, the YEROC by Corey Woods. The pieces were fantastic and the performance was one for the books.

We found another amazing vegan restaurant, that I wish would make its way down South. Blossoms, was my all time favorite restaurant for the trip, the full menu was vegan and their Truffle, Mushroom Pizza was insanely delicious!

My look for this nights show was one of my favorite pieces from Lilac and Lilies Boutique, in Fort Lauderdale Florida, this flattering white dress. Paired with our Livin’ the MAD Life “Winter Sparkle” tote.

SOHO

Our trip for New York Fashion Week was nothing less than wonderful. We tried some amazing vegan foods, enjoyed stunning runway shows and explored parts of the city that we have never been to.

This day was my Zara look, I wanted something fun and classy, but wearable. Which is why I went with a chunky heeled bootie, to carry me around the city for a full day.

We spent most of the day in SoHo, aka South of Houston rd., and it was the most charming little space! We stopped by Bulletin.Co, a female empowering, pink wonder world, that needs to be experienced at least once! And we ate at By.CHLOE for breakfast and lunch! It’s so nice having full vegan restaurants at the tip of your fingers, it makes ordering much more simple! blog2

Sunday Brunch at Sciuri

I’m dying over this top from Ralph Lauren! It’s the perfect piece to dress up for a fancy night out, or to throw on some cute shorts and spend the day brunching it with your girls.

And I think I’ve found another favorite brunch spot, located in South Beach! If you’re looking for an authentic Italian bakery, where everyone is from Italy, then Sciuri Bakery is the place for you! They had the most amazing selection of baked goods, cakes, cookies, fudge, you name it! I don’t think I’ve ever had a cannoli so good! And they even have delicious lunch options like lasagna, pizza and, my favorite, the arancini! If this doesn’t sound good already, they even offered vegetarian options! I’ve definitely stumbled across a gem in South Beach!

Livin’ the MAD Life

Exciting news everyone! My mom and I have decided to start our own purse and bag company. But there’s a twist! We wanted to bring our personal values into the brand, Livin’ the MAD Life, and have decided to keep it all vegan, cruelty free, sustainable and focused on empowering designs.

For those of you who do not know, my mother is a world renowned artist, who has sold hundreds of thousands of art pieces and has collectors from around the world. Her art has been featured in popular media streams such as the “O” Oprah Magazine, was the cover image for the Interior Design Magazine, and the featured artist and cover for the Spectrum Art Basel in 2015. She also has her art sold in various retail stores across the country such as, Urban Outfitters, Bed Bath & Beyond and Target. Not only that, but she also has art in major hotels, TV shows, celebrity homes and restaurants around the country.

Okay, so enough bragging about how awesome of an artist my mom is.. But that’s what makes the brand even better! My mother will design each bag and we even have original, hand painted purses!

Pretty cool, huh? Well it’s even cooler, because all of our hand painted bags are on thrifted, upcyled bags! Not sure if you knew this or not, but the fashion industry is the second largest polluter in the world, only behind the oil industry. Purchasing second hand and thrifted fashion items is a great way to keep sustainable and help reduce the fashion industries, and your, carbon footprint. We have thrifted bags from brands such as Chloe, Steve Madden, Samsonite and more! Some of the pieces date back to the 1950’s, making them a vintage masterpiece!

Although our other collections are not on thrifted bags, they will be designed with the colorful workings of my mom, which makes them a collectors piece and not fast fashion.

What’s even more, is we will never sell a bag that is not vegan or cruelty free. The majority of our bags will be made from PU faux leather.

There’s so much more to learn about our products and how they embody empowerment and what a MAD symbol stands for. To read more and check out all of our products visit www.livinthemadlife.com and keep in touch via social media @LivinTheMADLife.

Here are a few of our bags that you can purchase! Side note| I will also be modeling for the brand, so stay tuned for our other fun and exciting campaigns, that are already in the works!

Thanks for your support guys! Can’t wait to see where this takes us next!

Now I feel there might be one question you all have… what does MAD stand for?

It’s simple, its our initials! Megan Aroon Duncanson

Florida Chills

This is for sure my current favorite outfit I own! Obsessing over this trench and Steve Madden boots! It can be hard to dress cute in Florida winters, the day starts off freezing cold but come noon and it becomes steaming hot! I find this look able to satisfy my need for warmth, while also being able to keep me cool for the hot sun!

4 Trends to Try in 2016

4 Trends to Try in 2016

With 2016 officially underway, it’s time to leave last year in the past and embrace everything new—and that includes fashion trends. Though chilly temps might still be the norm in most parts of the country, spring styles are already front and center in the fashion world. And as much as I love my sweaters and boots, the latest designs for the spring season make me glad to live in a place where I don’t have to wait until May to wear them! Keep an eye out for these must-try trends to add to your wardrobe in 2016.

  1. Half-Moon Bag

As soon as Victoria Beckham’s half-moon handbag design walked (or rather, was carried) down the runway at her Spring 2016 show during New York Fashion Week, fashion-followers everywhere starting lusting after the new “it” purse. As Glamour writes, the crescent-shaped style has all the key components of a bag of the season: it’s highly Instagrammable, has a distinguishable shape, and, perhaps most importantly, it’s roomy enough to hold all of your must-have items. Check, check, and check!

2. Shimmer and Shine

The holidays may be over, but don’t put away the sparkly pieces that you rocked during the annual party circuit just yet. High-shine details and metallic shimmer are in for spring, making every day feel a little more festive than usual. PopSugar’s coverage of this trend can be helpful, as it covers everything from shorts to cocktail dresses, giving you a way to wear a NYE-worthy outfit year-round.

3. Surprising Sneakers

If one thing is for certain, it’s that this particular trend of 2016 is not made for the gym, tennis courts, or any other type of sweat-inducing activity. Spring’s sneakers put a spin on the classic shape, elevating the once-simple shoe to a more interesting level. While some designers opted for a pointed toe or luxe fabrics, others showcased colorful stitching and metallic finishes. To find your new favorite pair of kicks, Lyst’s shoe collection is a good place to start. The sampling of different designers from across the industry ensures you’ll find just the right surprising sneakers for you.

4. The Slip Dress

A staple of ’90s fashion, the slip dress is trending once again for the new year, and it’s sexier than ever. The subtle, strappy slip of decades past has gotten a makeover, with feminine lace, ruching, and hints of graphic color. Still, if wearing the lingerie-inspired piece outside of your bedroom seems too risqué, top your slip dress with a light oversized sweater or layer a simple tee underneath.

Cold Weather Essentials

Living in Florida, the cooler days are few and far between, but with winter comes the occasional chilly day, and it pays to be prepared! Last month, AroonMelane published a post called “My Favorite Sweater Dresses For This Season, highlighting the beautiful sweater dress and the many sweater dresses out there that you are bound to love. But what else should be in your closet as your winter essentials?

fishsweat1. The Chunky Fisherman Sweater
As Glamour is quick to point out, the chunky, cuddly fisherman sweater is every fashion designer and blogger’s dream come true. The cable knit is versatile, and you’ll find many uses for it through cooler days, be it with a skirt or with a nice pair of tailored pants.

blkturtle2. A Classic Black Turtleneck
Another item you should have, the black turtleneck is something you can wear in every season, but it works wonderfully in the winter because it’s easy to pair it with a nice midi coat. If the weather isn’t cold enough for layering, the turtleneck itself should be classy enough with a few chunky accessories.

leatherboot3. The Leather Boot
An obvious choice, the leather boot is featured on just about every Winter Essentials list, and even the Gift Guide on Woman Within. While a good pair of leather boots is too expensive to give as a gift, making the investment for yourself is sure to pay off, as the versatile leather boot can be worn over pants and leggings, or with the right cut of dresses.

fleecesarf4. A Fleece Scarf
Nothing quite says winter as well as fleece does. This warm material comes in all shades, and you’re sure to find that a good scarf is a great way to add color to a drab winter outfit, as well as add that much-needed texture and layering to your winter clothes.

brightbag5. The Bright Carryall
Harper’s Bazaar calls the bright-colored carryall “a smile does when you are feeling down” because it instantly lifts your mood and elevates your outfit. This is a great way to add personality to your winter clothes if you find yourself wearing a lot of neutral shades.

What do you think count as your winter wardrobe essentials?
