A Foodies Paradise

Living in Miami, Florida, I am constantly surrounded by amazing food. So I thought it would only be fair to share the amazing foods I find.

I decided to start out this new foodie series with a few places that will be first on my list to try. You’ll probably notice most of the restaurants I’ll be testing out are relatively healthy, because I try to maintain a mostly plant based diet, besides the occasional treat here and there.

Jugo Fresh

I’d imagine you could get almost any sort of detox juice and smoothie you could imagine. But I am particularly dying to try one of their bowls.

Jucy Lu

Another eatery for the health conscious eater. Particularly looking forward to their Let-Us-Wrap and veggie soup.

Maoz Vegetarian
1657 Washington Ave Miami Beach, FL 33139

If only to try their falafel! This “chipotle styled” restaurant is definitely bringing back some memories from one of my favorite falafel places, Hubbly Bubbly,in my other home town, Winter Park.

Sugar Factory
Hotel Victor, 1144 Ocean Dr, Miami Beach, FL 33139

So this place will definitely have to be saved for a time when I am really feeling like splurging. All of this healthy food will be out the window after I indulge in one of Sugar Factory’s gorgeous milkshakes!

For The Romantically Challanged Man

Valentine’s day is quickly approaching, and I bet there are some guys out there who are stressing out about what to get their special someone. It always seems so obvious and easy to think of dates and gift ideas, but for some reason guys just can never get it.

That’s why the ladies over at Man Crates have challenged me to create a mini wishlist to help the romantically challenged man this holiday.

  1. If you are looking to really impress a girl: Homemade baked goodies and flowers

If you are looking to make a really good impression on your special someone, bake! Trust me, if a guy goes out of his way to turn the heat up in the kitchen for his girl, he wont be dissapointed with the outcome. It doesn’t have to be anything intricate, simple chocolate chip cookies would do. Or you could even go a step further, and bake her favorite goodie! Don’t forget to throw in some flowers, because a girl is always expecting flowers on Valentine’s day. (Mine would definitely have to be white chocolate chip cookies, yummm) Toasted-Coconut-White-Chocolate-Chip-Cookies-1

2. For the newbies: Her favorite candies and flowers

It’s so cliche, I know. But if you were lucky enough to find a new someone right before Valentine’s Day, it’s better to play it safe with good ole fashioned candy and flowers. Pick a cute basket and fill it with all her favorite candies! Of course you must add in some flowers. Try to avoid your average chocolates, like hershey bars and kisses. Buying your chocolate from an actual chocolate place is much more thoughtful and delicious.

One of my favorite gifts was a basket filled with every kind of white chocolate from my local chocolate store. I was in literal white chocolate heaven.

3. For the Valentine’s veteran: Something New

So you and your girl have been together for a while and you’re stuck on what to get her? Thinking of a spontaneous and different date night will definitely make her and you happy! Ditch that same Italian restaurant you go to once a month and plan a fun picnic, or camping trip.

If you really want to go all out travel to a romantic new spot and treat yourselves to a couples spa day. Throw in some flowers and chocolates to make her feel extra special, and this Valentine’s Day will be one for the books.

What is your most memorable Valentine’s Day gift?

2 Minute Healthy Dessert Under 100 Calories

Can you even believe it?!!?

I want to start adding more health and fitness related posts to AroonMelane, so what better way to start it off? This extremely quick and easy dessert has been one of my go-to’s recently!

All you need is a bag of frozen fruit, your choice (but the fruit you choose may change the calorie count).

I’ve been using frozen mango chunks from Trader Joes, as I find the mango has a better texture.

Once you have your serving of frozen fruit out, stick it in your blender, add some water and blend until creamy!

I love making this treat with mangos because one serving makes a lot! And the texture is that of an ice cream/Italian ice mix! It’s amazing and sooooo easy!

One serving (14 pieces) of Trader Joes mango chunks = 90 calories

What’s your favorite healthy dessert?

Weekend in DC

Weekend in DC

If you follow along on my Instagram or read my last post you would know that I’ve been in DC for the past weekend!

Of course we visited some memorials and indulged in delicious foods such as these amazing homemade pop tarts from ‘Teds  Bulletin.’ I do not think I have ever tasted a pop tart so delicious! If you’re ever in the capital hill area you must stop by, if even just for the pop tarts!

Besides the delicious bakery section, their main course foods were just as good; as I feasted on this HUGE breakfast burrito!

I would have to say the Capital Hill area was by far one of my favorite places we visited. The area had so many little boutiques, bakeries and restaurants, as well as this pretty mural that we stopped to take a photo by.  Another one of my favorite places in this area was Georgetown. The University was absolutely breathtaking and looked like something out of A fairytale.

Even the homes in Georgetown were pretty and colorful.  Just walking down the streets and looking at the homes was entertaining.

After Georgetown we had even more delicious food. One thing I had to have while here was sushi so we visited ‘The Sushi Bar,’ near Alexandria. And it was so good!
And of course knowing me, I had my fair share of icecream and when I spotted a Ben and Jerrys down King Street I indulged.

Besides all of the good food, we wandered through DC and stopped at some breathtaking monuments such as the Lincoln Memorial.

DC is definitely a place of history and everyone should take time to visit. It’s a gorgeous town and well worth it. 🙂

Stay tuned for more this week.

Favorite Summer Recipes // Pinterest Inspired

Summer means lots of time to try new things and spend your days outside with friends and family. That being said, here are a few of my favorite summer treats, thanks to Pinterest!

Moscato Peach Wine Slushies

pin1

Ingredients
  • 1 bottle Moscato Wine (750ml) (I used Barefoot brand) plus more for blending *see note
  • 2 cups frozen peaches (unsweetened)
  • ½ cup powdered sugar (can cut back but it needs to be pretty sweet)

Instructions

  1. Add frozen peaches, sugar and a few splashes of moscato to food processor or blender.
  2. Blend until completely smooth.
  3. Pour in the rest of the moscato and blend until incorporated.
  4. Quickly pour mixture into ice cube trays. (stir if peaches begin to settle on the bottom of blender jar)
  5. Freeze.
  6. Place frozen cubes in a blender. ( I never measure them out. I just toss a handful in and add more if I need it)
  7. Add a splash of wine to make blending easier.
  8. Blend until slush consistency, adding a splash of wine to thin it out if needed.
  9. Pour into wine glasses, add a straw (if desired) and serve immediately.
  10. Garnish with fresh fruit like strawberries and peach slices
Notes

You’ll need to add a few splashes of wine to the frozen ice cube for blending. You can reserve a small amount of wine or just use some wine from another bottle, which is what I do.

ADD ice! If you like for your slushies to have those tiny little ice chips then throw in a few ice cubes and a little bit more wine!

Georgetown was such a cute little town!
You can see the line around the side of Georgetown Cupcakes. According to their website, their line always goes around the block.
We timed how long it took to get through the line and it was 30minutes!
But the cupcakes were yummy 😀IMG_3958.JPG
